The aim of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games SAMP Program is to facilitate opportunities for Australian industry. The program will identify capable companies to supply goods and services for Rio 2016 Olympic Games and 2014 Brazil Football World Cup.
The combined budget for the two major events and supporting infrastructure is estimated at AUD$82 billion and will present a diverse range of opportunities for Australian industry. Brazil will face many challenges delivering these major events and the related supporting infrastructure.
Australia is well-placed to leverage off its world-class reputation in this sector gained from the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. This reputation has been further enhanced with Australian industry delivering significant export outcomes from major events including the Beijing 2008 Olympics and the recent export successes to the upcoming Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Australia Brazil Sports and Events Alliance (the Alliance) comprising ICN Victoria, Austrade and AISES will identify and develop project opportunities with these major events and will provide support to Australian companies bidding for work in Brazil.
Identified sectors which will be targeted include:
- master planning and project management
- design, development and construction of venues and related games infrastructure
- overlay – temporary venues, modifications to existing venues and temporary requirements for games operations
- games services, accessibility, catering, cleaning and waste, security
- games management – games planning and coordination, training staff and volunteers
- ICT – technology operations and telecommunication
- transport, accommodation and service infrastructure
- major event security and risk management
- delivery of an environmentally sustainable event
- urban infrastructure improvements
- legacy planning

The opening of a tender for the construction of a new hotel in Brazil's capital city, Brasilia, this week could be a prime opportunity for relevant Australian groups looking to make a move into the country.
Infraero, Brazil's federal body for airports, is developing the new 150 bed hotel in an area just a few hundred metres from the city's international airport, primarily to cater for passengers in transit.
The project is expected to cost around R$13.5 million and international groups are able to bid for the work. The tender closes September 15 and the work is expected to take 18 months. The winning bidder will also have the right to develop a number of associated commercial facilities, such as shops and restaurants

A Infraero publicou nesta quinta-feira (15/7) edital de licitacao de area para construcao de um hotel no Aeroporto Internacional do Rio de Janeiro/Antonio Carlos Jobim Galeao. A abertura da licitacao sera no proximo dia 23/9. A modalidade da licitacao e de concorrencia internacional, aberta aos interessados da rede hoteleira do Brasil e do exterior, com investimentos previstos em R$ 13,575 milhoes. Os recursos para a construcao do hotel serao da iniciativa privada.

An established and well-regarded football training centre in the north-east of Brazil is currently seeking outside investors, presenting a potential opportunity for relevant Australian groups looking to gain a foothold in the country or align with Brazilian football ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Located less than 50km from Fortaleza, the coastal capital of the state of Ceara and one of the 12 host cities for the 2014 Cup, the North-East Sport Training Centre, or CETEN as it is known, offers a range of infrastructure spread over eight hectares including a small stadium of 2,500 capacity, three other official football fields, an administrative centre, gym, physiotherapy room, plus leisure facilities and accommodation for up to 120 athletes.
The centre has already been utilised by some of Brazil“s top football clubs including Palmeiras, Gremio and recent Copa Libertadores champion Internacional, and is also being supported by a string of sponsors. An important focus is attracting foreign groups interested in training in the facility and learning about Brazilian football techniques.
